Email Marketing For Etsy Sellers
Creating A Lead Magnet

What Is A Lead Magnet

People nowadays are protective of their personal information, including email address. They don’t just give their email for no reason.

As a business, we can create something valuable that shoppers and customers can’t resist, and so they are willing to exchange their email with that valuable thing.

And that thing is called a lead magnet, which is a marketing tool that is used to generate more email subscribers.

Lead magnet can be many things. Some examples include ebook, gift guide, or even a simple coupon code for your Etsy shop.

A good lead magnet should be:

  • Valuable
  • Relevant to the person receiving it
  • Improving that person’s life
  • Easy to consume and can be received quickly

For most Etsy shops, we are marketing to customers (who have already bought from you) and shoppers (who will potentially buy from you in the future).

But even for these two groups, they may not find the same lead magnet to be attractive. For example, while a product care guide is useful for customers, shoppers won’t have much use for it.

Therefore, we need to think about what each group actually want, and tailor make different lead magnets to different targets in order to build your subscriber list effectively. Here are some of my recommendations for each group:

For Customers

  • VIP discount coupon code (make them feel special)
  • Product care guide (make the most of their purchase)
  • Warranty extension
  • Monthly giveaway (sign up for a chance to win)

For Shoppers

  • Monthly giveaway (sign up for a chance to win)
  • Free shipping coupon code
  • Free sample with first order
  • Coupon code for a fix amount off or percentage off

One thing to caution is to think carefully before using a discount as a signup incentive. If you promote “Sign up to my list for 10% off” on your Etsy shop, it can make your products seem less valuable and stop people from buying at full price.
