TL;DR Summary - The Etsy Niche Discovery System
Researching your niche is crucial for Etsy success. It helps you make informed decisions and avoid wasting time on unprofitable or overly competitive niches.
Brainstorming niches should be one of the first things you do. Generate niche ideas from passions, skills, Etsy inspirations, social media, and other marketplaces.
In the course, I go into details of how I estimate demand and competition in order to pick out the niche with the highest potential.
First, to estimate demand, we will use the reviews
01 - Estimating Demand:
- Use Etsy search bar for preliminary elimination
- Analyse reviews of listings on first two search pages
- Rank keywords based on total review numbers
02 - Assessing Competition:
- Analyse first three search result pages
- Use point system based on shop review numbers
- Rank keywords from highest to lowest competition
03 - Choosing Best Niches:
- Prioritise high demand, low competition niches
- Consider both broad and niche keyword rankings
Using Research Tools:
- Alura: Focus on keyword score (demand vs. competition)
- eRank: Look for keywords with high searches/clicks and low competition
Once you have chosen your niche, you need to understand who your target customer is and what do they prefer.
Reading the 2-4 star reviews of your competitors can help you identify potential market gaps (look for unmet needs and improvement opportunities) and research the profiles of your competitors’ customers to understand who they are and their preferences.
